A Little Help to Breathe Easy

Posted: June 2, 2026 in News

This small chick recently arrived into our care showing some mild respiratory symptoms. While any breathing issue can be a concern in young birds, we’re pleased to say that after a thorough veterinary check, they have been tested and confirmed negative for avian flu. 💙

To help them on the road to recovery, we’ve begun a short course of nebuliser treatment. This gentle process allows the chick to sit calmly inside a secure box while breathing in a fine therapeutic mist, helping to ease and clear the airways. 🐤

It’s a simple but very effective way of supporting respiratory health, especially in young or vulnerable birds.

As you’ll see in the video, the chick takes it all in their stride — resting quietly during treatment before returning to their usual routine. Good nutrition and rest play an equally important role in recovery, and after each session, they’re treated to a nourishing meal of chopped whitebait. 🐟

With a full belly, it’s then time to settle down for a peaceful afternoon snooze in a cool, shaded area, safely away from the heat of the day. ☀️

At this stage, things are looking positive, and with a few more days of supportive care, we’re hopeful this little one will soon be back to full strength.

Every patient, no matter how small, receives the time and care they need to recover — and it’s always a privilege to be part of that journey.
