In January 2023, members of our team visited vulnerable young adults, some with additional needs, at the Kehelland Trust. We spoke with them about the history of the Bird Hospital, and what our roles at the hospital involve.

Lead by artists and practitioner Sally Crabtree in partnership with the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) and with funding from GWR, ‘Birds on the Branchline’ was a project to encourage children’s interest in wildlife and to celebrate the heritage of songbirds and their habitat on the St Ives Bay line.
It delivered award-winning creative literacy and nature preservation workshops based around the notion of Word Birds and a Poetree to children and young people living in the local community and special ‘on board’ events for everyone.
BTO Youth Representatives David and Carla took families on a guided bird walk starting and finishing at Lelant Station. The walk took in the Hayle Estuary and onto the beach, giving the group time to look out for waders, wildfowl and songbirds.

Devised and delivered by Barbara Santi of awen productions, this creative media project explores inspiring ways of raising awareness of wildlife, history and heritage.
The project celebrates the lifetime work of Dorothy and Phyllis Yglesias and the many volunteers over the last 100 years. The project has run events, workshops with Mousehole School creating a beautiful animation called Wild Bird, is developing an audio documentary and making a short film to be completed in 2025.
The project has been funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and British Academy / Leverhulme Trust. If you are interested in collaborating with us, please get in touch.
