On this day in 2016, the search was called off for Inspector Mike Reid, who went missing near Porthchapel while trying to rescue weather‑beaten gannets. His courage, compassion, and dedication to wildlife will never be forgotten.
Mike approached every call with calm professionalism and a deep sense of responsibility. His commitment to protecting Cornwall’s coastal wildlife set a standard we continue to strive toward every day.
His integrity, kindness, and leadership shaped the people who worked beside him. His loss was felt across his family, friends, colleagues, and the wider RSPCA community — and his absence is still deeply felt today.
