Appeals

Our Appeals

These are our current appeals. Any donation you can give makes a huge difference to providing the right food, specialist tools and equipment in supporting the patients in our care. This helps them to build their strength and the skills they need to thrive when they are released back into the wild.

Stormbird Survival Kit Fund

Storm events happen throughout the year and not just in the winter. During August last year we cared for a number of patients with storm-related issues – exhaustion, injuries, waterproofing issues. By contributing to this appeal, you are helping us with resources an exhausted stormbird will need, whatever time of year they need it.
  • £5 will cover the costs of equipment to provide fluid therapy to rehydrate a seabird.
  • £22 will buy a new Snugglesafe heat pad to keep birds warm and cozy.
  • £350 will enable us to purchase an Incubator for smaller patients.
  • £650 would purchase an incubator for medium-sized patients.

Fledgling Fun Fund

Enrichment is important to the development of our fledging patients. Providing them with toys that encourage foraging behaviour and curiosity is a key part of their rehabilitation journey. Your contribution to this fund means young seabirds can develop these skills so they are ready to face the big wild world when they are released into their natural habitat.

  • £5 would purchase a toy for gulls to play with
  • £10 soft toy for chicks to nest into
  • £20 will buy a fake ‘seaweed’ enrichment feeder to encourage foraging behaviour
  • £25 will buy paddling pool for gulls to practice washing and paddling on water.
  • £30 would provide astroturf as a textured mat for aviary surfaces

Fish Fund

As you can imagine we get through a lot of fish! All our patients are given an exclusively fish-based diet – it’s expensive but ensures our seabird patients are given the food they need to rehabilitate well. When caring for pelagic species (those seabirds that live out at sea) a specialist fish diet is required.

  • Our total fish bill for a year is around £5,000!
  • It costs £8 to feed a Herring Gull chick for a week. Chicks can be fed up to six times a day
  • £15 will feed a Gannet for a week.
  • £25 covers the cost of fish for a Guillemot per week (£4 per bag of 10 sand eels)
