Bird netting is often used to deter birds—but when it’s damaged or poorly maintained, it can become a deadly trap.
We’ve recently treated a bird injured after becoming tangled in loose netting. Sadly, this happens far too often.
What you can do:
Avoid netting where possible
Ensure it’s properly installed and regularly checked
Remove any loose or old netting immediately
Safer alternatives:
Bird spikes (blunt-ended do not cause damage, just deter)
Tensioned wires or sloped ledges
Reflective deterrents
Reducing food and nesting spots
Please help by:
Reporting unsafe netting to the property owner.
Contacting a wildlife rescue if you find an injured bird.
