🪶 New Patient Admission – Adult Herring Gull 🪶

Posted: May 19, 2026 in News

On the 13th, one of our team received a call about an adult herring gull who had sadly been the victim of a suspected car collision. He was found lame and unable to walk, and was quickly brought into our care.

Following triage with our vets at Rosevean, he was assessed as a suitable candidate for rehabilitation — and we were pleased to be able to give him a chance. 💙

Upon further examination by our Bird Care Team, we noted:

• A dropped left wing

• A superficial wound on the inside of the wing

• Two outer primary feathers damaged and hanging loose

In addition, he has come in with pre-developed bumblefoot, suggesting he has likely been spending an extended period grounded prior to admission.

🩺 Current Care Plan

• Pain relief and anti-inflammatory medication

• Supportive wing bandaging to aid recovery

• Regular salt soaks for his feet while we further investigate the cause of the bumblefoot

He is currently undergoing his 7-day isolation period, and we’re very pleased to report he has already started to perk up and regain some strength — a very encouraging sign. 🌿

📸 In this video, you can see him enjoying one of his salt soak treatments after having his bandage removed.

We’ll continue to monitor his progress closely and share updates as he recovers. Thank you, as always, for your support in giving birds like this a second chance. 🐦💙
