These two soggy gulls are definitely not ready to be released yet! 
They need to be waterproof before we can allow them to go off into the big wide world. 
Bathing and preening help make birds waterproof by:
1: Removing dirt, dust, parasites, and debris from their feathers.
2: Spreading natural oils throughout their feathers, which helps maintain water resistance and flexibility.
3: Using preen oil from the uropygial gland, which boosts water resistance and insulating properties of each feather.
We hope they will be ready this year but if not they will stay with us here at Hotel Mousehole until they’re ready.
