An unlikely friendship

We continue to be closed for new patients due to the outbreak of Avian Influenza in the local area.

However, we are still caring for our current patients, two of which are spending some time together as you can see in the below video..

Prince the juvenile Puffin and Odessa the adult Guillemot have been with us for several weeks. They were admitted for two different reasons but both need to waterproof their feathers before they can be released back into the wild.

Normally, we wouldn’t put different species together in the same enclosure but as they are both seabirds and would spend time on the same rocky outcrops, preening and drying off we decided to see how they got on.

It was a success! They are happy socialising and it prevents too much imprinting on their human carers, this will help once they are back in the wild.
