Confirmed Avian Influenza outbreak in Penzance. What does this mean for Mousehole Wild Bird Hospital?

Posted: November 20, 2024 in News

We are sad to report that there has been an Avian Influenza outbreak in a poultry smallholding on the outskirts of Penzance.

This means that in order to protect our current patients we have decided that we will not be able to take in any birds at present.

This was not an easy decision as we understand how distressing it is to find a sick or injured bird and not be able to bring it to our hospital. However, as Avian Influenza is very contagious amongst seabirds and poultry we felt it would be unwise to put our current patients at risk.

We will be monitoring the situation closely. You can see any updates from the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) here.

APHA has also advised veterinary surgeons not to examine or take in sick or injured birds due to the risk of Avian Influenza.

We thank you all for your continued support and will update you as soon as anything changes.

We are still available to give advice via telephone. email and our social media channels during office hours 7 days a week.
