Janet the Gannet

Recently we had our first Gannet in quite a while admitted after being found stranded on a beach in Newquay. Shes was taken to Penmellyn Vets, Newquay who checked her over and cleared her of any broken bones (a common injury we see). They did a fantastic job in stabilising her before she was transported to us by one of our brilliant volunteers, Lucy.

Once she got to us, we were concerned as to how to she is sitting/walking, and the lack of strength in her legs. As such, she was also checked over by our brilliant vet from Rosevean Veterinary Practice who has cleared her of any obvious leg injuries and prescribed an anti-inflammatory and vit B complex injection to rule out her weakness being due to deficiencies or pain.

She is not out of the woods yet but we are doing all we can for this incredible bird. Hang in there Janet – we got you 🪶
