Something a little different

We recently welcomed a Manx Shearwater to the hospital.

This little one was found on a beach near St Austell and climbed up a gentlemen right up to his shoulder to ask for help.

Luckily this kind family took the bird in and made it comfortable for the night including putting a couple of sand eels in with it.

Following our advice they took it to their local vet which was Penmellyn Vets – St Austell who gave it a thorough check over. It was luckily uninjured but needed a little TLC to recover so arrangements were made for it to come to us. The vets kindly arranged transport to their Pool branch which is a little closer to us and we collected it from there.

Now named ‘Pumpkin’ for the Halloween season this little Manx Shearwater has spent a few days with us and is feeling much better. We will be looking to release it in the coming week, as this species of bird migrates to warmer climes in October and we don’t want it to miss the boat as it were!

Good luck little Pumpkin!

With thanks to Tash for the photos and video.
