These cheeky youngsters’ flying skills are improving all the time. 5 of the 8 gulls in this aviary can now get up on the shelter which is about 2-3 feet off the ground. It doesn’t sound that high to us humans, but a couple of months ago, their flight feathers and wing muscles were not good enough to allow them to take off at all. The supplements that our lovely supporters have purchased such as Akwavit multivitamins, Calcivet, Feather Up and Salmon oil have helped tremendously.
We hope that as they go from strength to strength we can release them later this year. We are working closely with our vets to ensure we are doing everything we can to get these birds to a releasable condition – if they do not meet this by the end of summer they will be reassessed and potentially over-wintered again if they just need a bit more time.
You can do it boys and gals!
